Where there were signs of breathing there aren't anymore.
@lewis ,
That’s sad, Mr.M., 😞 but at least you did all you could. The fact that you said there were flies near him didn’t sound good. Also if a hedgehog is out during the day it’s usually an indication that they aren’t well.
Hopefully you’ll lay him to rest somewhere nice. 🙂
I think Mother Nature will probably rule over the outcome.
Well, it didn't take long, I forgot about the magpies. They have obviously been watching and came twice yesterday to bully the mother pigeon. so sadly, I have removed the nest. Too close to house to listen to the distress of eggs or babies being taken.
Pigeons nest 6-8 times a year, so they will soon be building again.
My pair of loved-up pigeons have not given up nesting adjacent to the house all summer. Visiting many times, chasing each other, bouncing around, and copulating on the extension flat roof. You would think kids were playing up there from the noise!
Today, I noticed bird poop on the garden path under the tree, which is above the shrub they used in spring. I eventually spotted the nest, with an adult pigeon sitting nearby giving me the evil eye. On the nest is big fat squab about half the size of its parents, almost ready to go.
10/10 for perseverance lol! They picked a good spot this time, and being later in the year, there are no magpies around.
Success! Pigeons really are dopey creatures. We've got two of those really fat Wood pigeons wandering around the back garden under the trees. They waddle & are quite comical.
We have pigeons passing through the garden, but none nesting here since the shyster over the back removed all the conifers and replaced them with a 6ft fence.
