Alice has spent most of the evening zipped inside Sam's jumper, though racing to the kitchen every time I got off my chair in case food was in the offing, miaowing plaintively when it wasn't and racing back to snuggle Sam, and complain. I'm pretty sure she is here to stay...
It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.
Given the choice between balcony or porch to spend the night, Alice chose the porch.Came downstairs this morning and there was an awful racket. She was hurling herself against the front door and yelling at the top of her voice... Three others were standing in a dignified row behind her (but I got the feeling they were encouraging her.). Celeste was watching from the lofty height of the balcony and Vassili, who is the only one allowed to stay in overnight and is 'talkative'was chittering away at me. I imagine it was "just give me my breakfast and let me get out of this madhouse!".

That's a lovely area for dogs, and a great idea, but it doesn't look big enough for a large or energetic dog to run. Hartley would be from one end to the other in a matter of seconds. That's why he likes playing fields and beaches...

There are several of these parks, all in highly built-up areas far away from fields and beaches. Anything which encourages dog-owners to be responsible - remember, this is a new concept here, where there are feral dogs everywhere, is all right with me.
Just a few years ago, dogs chained on balconies in all weathers, was the norm, now we have a dedicated hotline to ring if we suspect mistreatment. A man was fined 1,000 euros last week for putting his dog in a shock collar and laughing at it as it yelped in pain. Not before time, you may say, but at least animal cruelty is being addressed now. These parks also have trainers which will help with problem behaviour for a few euros.

Mrs M messed with Hartley's head today. She took him into town this morning, he's not walked along the main street before so it was a new experience. And even stranger for him when coincidentally a bus pulled up with me driving. He couldn't quite make out why "Daddy" was behind the wheel, and was a bit upset when I had to go and drove off. He's OK now though.
Alice hates the vacuum, they all do, and it's not surprising but, Elsie, one of our cats in u.k. , loved it and would hitch a ride on the cleaner, purring her head off. When I switched it off, she would paw at the button, trying to turn it back on! They have all gone out or into hiding so I'd better finish off, put the vacuum away , and endure the 'how could you do that to us' glares as they slowly return.
