I'm not fussed on feet (who is?), but I do look after them. Recently I noticed that the little piggy that stayed at home looked odd. It was curling so I did a bit of goggling
By the strictest definition, an ingrown nail occurs when the nail grows into and eventually punctures the skin next to the nail bed. While this condition is quite common, perhaps just as common is the incurvated or highly curved toenail. With a highly curved toenail, the side of the nail may grow straight down into the toe or even hook back under the toenail (referred to as a hooked toenail).
I'm going to try & do-it-myself for a bit. I've soaked my foot in a bowl of warm water (and my crossword book!Dang!) and cut a 'V' in the centre. I even managed to wedge a tiny bit of cotton wool on the sides. Keeping it there is proving a problem though as the plaster came off.
Mine are looking better since I bought Lidl's Electric Hard Skin Remover. That was a bargain at £9.99. They look strange without nail polish though. I thought I'd better remove that while I mess with this odd nail.
Savlon iodine spray will prevent infection where you're ramming stuff down the sides of your nails til the 'V' shape grows out - about 5 weeks on average - but it's not cheap and almost impossible to find.
All in all, it's less painful and cheaper to go to a chiropodist.
