Hopefully, he will be alright M, it's a horrible thing to happen.
When it happened to me, it was a card that is used for online purchases only and never leaves the house, the money was back in my account the next day. The purchases made by the scammer are pretty obvious and not usually made anywhere near your location. The bank chap told me the details were likely to have been in a block of stolen number records. Shysters!
I don't quite understand how it can happen but that's my pea brain being unable to grasp it. Oh M. That's an awful lot of money for a young couple to lose. Well anyone to lose. The poor loves. I really hope there is something that can be done to help them get at least some of it back.
