Not my photo Frazz, it's 32's. Both girls were here for dinner last night and our little night walker strolled up the garden. They were entranced as he is so tame now.
I do hope that food didn’t belong to either Oz or Ruby …
It does and they know it. They stare at him. I'm beginning to think there are two of them. I fed the friendly one around 8, he had a drink and waddled off. I went outside not long ago and a little hedgehog was right next to the step and curled into a tight ball. I put down some dried food and he wouldn't uncurl until I moved away.
Could be lily He, or one of them, came back later on and sat on the mat outside the patio doors. He was still there when I went to round up the cats for the night. I caved in and dished out another small handful of cat food. I also put a note on the door to warn Himself that a hedgehog was right outside the door and not to step on him. We are usually overrun with snails in the garden, but not this year. I think the long dry conditions around May might have had something to do with their absence. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a single slug this year so maybe this baby/ these babies are struggling.
Of course! I was looking for blue and white pasta bowls today.
Word has got around. There are currently three hedgehogs snuffling around the garden. By the time I got the torch only our little boy was still hanging around. He got seconds.
I understand hedgehog speak now Frazz, I've done my homework. When I put down the first few bits of food to grab his attention, he comes running. When I put down the handful, he rears his head and chuffs at me. In hedgehog that means, "Back off!"
I was very pleased to see our little Hog tonight. He's crunching away as I type. It's been intense here with diggers, lorries and noise. He didn't show up yesterday and I was afraid he might have been scooped up in the digger's bucket when they cleared the nettles and the tree saplings on the boundary behind the shed, but here he is, as cheeky as ever. On Tuesday evening Himself said Hog was following him all round the patio. Himself got the message eventually and put food down for him.
