We've got a three way fight going on here between the magpies, crows and squirrels. I've also noticed a lot of creepy crawlies scuttling about outside no doubt dying to get inside. There are some fast moving beetle like thingies I've never clapped eyes on until now. Goodness knows what they are
Magpies are brilliant mimics. We have a particularly annoying one for the last few months that miaows like a cat and has fooled me several times into opening the door thinking one of them wants to be in. At a little nearby one man country petrol station there was one that would mimic a lorry backing in or a car horn and the owner would wake from his siesta, leave the tea table, drop whatever else he was doing and rush out to find an empty forecourt...
It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.
...and when I lived in Bristol, there was a really annoying magpie who used to pinch pegs off the line so I got into the habit of double pegging everything so that items wouldn't end up in the flowerbeds.

When I went outside last night I heard Ruby wailing and saw a very anxious Oz charging up the side of the house. Ruby was sitting outside the front door and my first thought was she was hurt, but she was guarding and crowing over her latest kill, a tiny shrew. She backed off only for Oz to take a keen interest in the shrew so I shooed him away and felt something nudging my foot. Mr Hog had joined the party!
Himself took the recycling bags out of the garage and put them on the drive earlier this evening. He just went outside to put them outside the property ready for collection when one bag "undulated" and when he looked inside he saw one of the hedgehogs. The hog was very reluctant to leave his new found abode and Himself had to practically empty the whole bag before said hog shuffled off. If he had not made his presence known the outcome could have been tragic. Edit: for the hog not Himself
Yes that my my thought Frazz I wonder what's wrong with the old wardrobe Himself has in the garage for storage. Maybe last year's hog took out a lease on it.
They must be very confused with the weather this year. Along with the sparrows and pigeons chasing the girls round the garden. I have a viburnum in full bloom, should be late winter.
It's been like first and second sitting school dinners here tonight. First sitting was the very shy baby hog. Later I watched him toddle off up the back garden only for the cheeky chappy baby hog to whizz around the corner of the garden ready for his supper. I've got to be quick otherwise he tries to get inside. When he was done the large hog rolled up. We are getting through an awful lot of cat food.
