Talking about slugs and snails, I don't think I have seen any slugs this year, and only a few snails. It might sound good, but not for the birds, hedgehogs, badgers and the like. They seem to get less every year, not that long ago you couldn't walk up the road at night without crunching on snails out of the hedges and walls for a feast. I've yet to see a daddy long legs either, usually one or two came in when you open the door this time of year. In fact not seen many flying insects around at dusk for the bats. It's concerning.
Same here with the bees. Judging by the damage to my garden, perhaps that really cold spell last December killed off more than normal. Numbers have been dropping, but it's been drastic this year.
Looking for somewhere to overwinter. I have a large dense osmanthus (holly like shrub), the ladybirds love it. In the spring dozens of them start emerging.
